About!

NAME: Cassandra Evelyn Lippey
D.O.B.: 5th January 1989
RESIDES: in Sydney, Australia
STUDYING: Second year student at the University of New South Wales, combined degree in Fine Arts/Arts, majoring in Painting and Drawing/Japanese Studies.

Intro:

Call me Cass! Or Cassie, whichever you prefer, really. Cassandra is my full name for business and legal purposes, but in reality only my mother calls me that. I'm a 21 year old university student. So pretty much par for the course, really.

Past:

In September 2006 I finished the HSC and graduated from Pymble Ladies College, after being there the full thirteen years, K to year 12. Believe me, that was a strange day.
Last year I took a year off before entering university in order to work full time and earn some money of my own. My resume is available upon request though, so no need to go into any more boring details about that here!
I've had an interest in comics, cartoons and animation of all kinds from a young age, drawing on page after page of any piece of paper I could find since I was old enough to hold a pen. (Unfortunately, this often also lent itself to many mishaps with official documents. How do you explain to a four year old that receipts and tax statements lying around the office are not for drawing on?)

Future:

Some people hope to achieve world peace, or save lives. Me? My main and possibly only goal in life is to become a paid and practicing comic artist. If I can achieve that much with my life, I think I'll be able to die happy. I could go on and list all my major influences, but there's really too many to name. So if you're thinking that my style seems somewhat like some horrible almagamated lovechild between ten different comic artists from the last decade... well, that's probably because it is.

Present:

Aside from arty things, I also enjoy long walks on the beach-- no, wait, no I don't. Actually I enjoy being a humongous dork, playing video games, writing, reading, playing tennis and riding my pushbike. Beaches are okay, really, but only for swimming in, not for walking on. I translate Japanese comics in my spare time, and am kind of an obsessive movie-goer. My taste in music is the same as in TV-- anything goes. But that's not to say I'm easy to please, either. It's just that sometimes I find that terrible things are fun to watch, too.

Tools of the Trade:

A lot of the work in this portfolio has been done digitally, usually with a fun combination of Adobe Photoshop CS2 and Painter 9, and also of course with the help of my trusty WACOM tablet, Fred. This is not, in fact, because I lose every pen and pencil that I own within a month of acquiring it. It is also not because I have killed all the trees in Australia by drawing far too much and thus have singlehandedly left the country in a state of eco-crisis and paper-bankruptcy (though not for lack of trying). No, the truth of the matter is that my scanner and I are currently in a sordid love-hate relationship. Wherein my scanner hates me, and I love it fervently for the five days of the year it deigns to work.
As for the website, the coding was done all by hand in notepad by yours truly, with a little help from Lissa Explains it All for the popups script.

The Domain:

The domain ghot.net (AKA Fishnet, as it has lovingly come to be called) was purchased on the 5th of January 2004 by my wonderful older sister Sharon as a birthday present. Since then it has gone through at least as many incarnations as years it has been alive, but it still waddles steadfastly on, slowly but surely. Life goes on but the name remains. The name itself is a little pun on our darling messed-up English language, for it was George Bernard Shaw who claimed that "fish" could also be spelled "ghot" like so:

The webspace itself is being graciously hosted by the adorable Whitney of hoi-hoi.org. And I have no idea who her hosting company is, but whoever they are, they do a pretty good job! No complaints from my end.
